Maternal

I’m the founder of Maite Health, a tech enabled venture focused on comprehensive, proactive postpartum care.

As a new mother with a background in psychology and public health, I am determined to raise the standard for maternal wellness.

Approach

In 2021, I gave birth to my first baby, and during labor I unexpectedly developed a serious condition called preeclampsia, leading to an emergency c-section and an unexpectedly challenging postpartum recovery.

The postpartum phase is difficult in different ways for each person and family, but one constant is the complete invisibility of new mothers in the United States. No matter how thorough our pregnancy & labor care may be, postpartum care is nonexistent. And our country’s statistics prove it: the highest maternal mortality in the “developed” world, with numbers that are only rising while they fall everywhere else, and astounding racial disparities. For every one person that dies, 100 almost do. The wealthiest Black woman is more likely to die than her poorest White counterpart. Countless people suffer in ways big and small, without the infrastructure so many other countries and cultures have to provide support, care, and guidance.

Through my frustration, I decided that with my skills and experiences, both professional and personal, I must try to solve this problem. The postpartum phase should not be this hard, and definitely not this deadly.

To this end, I founded Maite Health, a tech enabled venture focused on providing proactive and comprehensive care. Beyond improving outcomes for patients, I also hope to provide support to a medical system (& its providers) not designed for optimal postpartum care.

Services

As Maite Health continues to grow, we are offering pilot-phase services to postpartum patients. As of early 2024, we are recruiting our second cohort of pilot patients.

Individual Services:

Maite Health is developing proactive, comprehensive services for postpartum patients: an evidence based system of virtual meetings during the first 3 months postpartum; a one stop shop for receiving support, assessing medical and mental health risk, and connecting to additional services, such as lactation, physical therapy, nutrition, and mental health.

Please contact me for details on participating in the pilot, and visit Maite Health’s website to learn more.

Group Services:

Prioritizing Yourself as a New Mama

Focused on mothers & birthing people with children ages 0-2, this is a psychologist led, virtual group to support new moms in prioritizing ourselves.

The group runs for 4 weeks, with each week taking a deeper dive into the following topics: physical health, social bonds, emotional well being, and career. We'll also explore barriers that keep up from attending to ourselves, such as mom guilt, shame spirals, expectations and norms, and more.
